Salvage experts have said that clearing debris around the wrecked structure in the Patapsco River will likely take weeks.
Highly trained demolition crews began cutting the top portion of the north side of the collapsed bridge into smaller sections for safe removal by crane in the Patapsco River, in Baltimore, Maryland, March 30, 2024. It's an around-the-clock operation, as the ship's owner involved in the incident, Singapore-based Grace Ocean Private Ltd., is exercising a legal maneuver.
Monday, officials revealed the owners of the container ship are trying to limit its liability, filing a petition asking a federal judge in Maryland to rule--saying there should be a cap on any damages if it is found to be at fault. No more than just over $43 million, the value of the vessel and its freight.
Belsky believes, despite the ship owner's filing, it may not affect the victims' families should they litigate.
