documenting a six-month unavailability in peaked caps for junior officers in the Royal Canadian Navy, a Department of National Defence spokesperson blamed the delay on production issues.
“After working closely with the manufacturer, examining various solutions and samples, the design issue has now been resolved.” The brims on caps for enlisted sailors is empty, while officers’ caps sport a variety of gold embroidery — a single line for officers under the rank of Lt. Commander, gold oak leaves for senior offiers, and a double-row of oak leaves for flag officers.Production of the old caps ceased last fall.
While DND claims the production problems only delayed delivery by four months, Royal Canadian Navy officers told the National Post the hats haven’t been available on the CAF’s online uniform ordering portal since late last year.
