A group allied with Trump's bid for the 2024 Republican nomination is setting records for outside political spending early in a US presidential campaign as he looks to box out his nearest rival DeSantis before the Florida governor even launches a campaign.

The Trump-aligned Make America Great Again Inc group, known as MAGA Inc, spent more than $7 million in the first four months of 2023 on television ads attacking DeSantis, disclosures to the Federal Election Commission show.

So far this year, super PACs have spent more than $12 million, about three times as much as four years earlier, according to public disclosures. "Trump's camp has a clear motivation to spend early and spend quite a bit," said Saurav Ghosh of the Campaign Legal Center, a nonpartisan watchdog."I don't think they would be able to do that without the illegal transfers."

Steven Cheung, a Trump campaign spokesman, dismissed the Campaign Legal Center's arguments, calling the organization"a Democrat group." "Voters need to understand Ron DeSantis’ past support for cutting Social Security and Medicare benefits," Pfeiffer said.
