I spent the 1960s fighting the New Left on the college campus as a leader of Young Americans for Freedom. For me, the pro-Hamas mobs are deja vu all over again.
Now as then, the goal is to bring America down
The American withdrawal from Southeast Asia was followed by a bloodbath, including the Cambodian killing fields where an estimated 2 million died. If Hamas ever gets its terrorist state, the Oct. 7 genocide will be endlessly repeated. At the time of the 1967 Six-Day War, I predicted that one day the left would go after Israel. The Jewish state fits perfectly into its worldview, where everyone is either a victim or an oppressor.
Compare the way gutless — and largely compliant — administrators of the 1960s treated the anti-Vietnam mob to the way gutless and largely compliant administrators of today treat the anti-Israel bund. New York City police were finally allowed to clear them out. But those arrested were charged with misdemeanors and were back on the street within hours of being booked.
