Sources close to Harry say that the criticism that came after the announcement has hit him hard, since the Invictus Games and veterans' affairs are his passion projects.
"Harry’s legacy on Invictus, the things he has achieved, that’s his real passion," they said. "This is the space in which he truly feels at home, it is something he deeply cares about. The reaction certainly took the shine off the award." They also noted that since Harry's work with veterans is so important to him, the current situation is a "particularly bitter pill to swallow" and has left him stunned at some of the reactions coming from the public.to honor the Duke of Sussex, calling him a"controversial" figure and that it was a"divisive" move by the ESPYs.
