The royal family’s strained relationship appears to be showing further cracks as Prince Harry suffered a ‘humiliation’ moments before standing guard at Queen’s vigil, according to reports.
Prince Harry, 38, wore his military uniform as he took up the honour of standing guard over grandmother Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin. It was at the request of his father King Charles III he wore his uniform for the duty which he took up on Saturday. But The Times reports Prince Harry was said to be ‘devastated’ to find when he received his uniform from Buckingham Palace yesterday, his grandmother's ER initials had been stripped from the shoulder. The prince, who saw action on the frontline during two tours of Afghanistan, has previously been denied the chance to wear his military uniform as he publicly mourns, because he is no longer a working royal.
Both were said to be initially invited, then allegedly banned from attending the event at Buckingham Palace on Sunday. The excuse allegedly given was that the occasion was for working royals only. The Queen's funeral will be held at Westminster Abbey, in London, at 11am on Monday, September 19. The emotional occasion will be screened on major television channels with a Bank Holiday being confirmed. This gives those wishing to pay their respects an opportunity to mourn Queen Elizabeth II.
