Senior cabinet leaders and government agencies are meeting to discuss the incident in Wakeley last night.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has convened a meeting of the national security subcommittee after an alleged terrorist act in Sydney 's south-west on Monday night.
Speaking to Sydney radio station WSFM on Tuesday, the prime minister said the incident is "extremely concerning" and urged Australians to remain calm.Mr Albanese also condemned crowd violence that followed the incident where at least two police officers were injured as large crowds clashed with authorities.
In comments made on ABC Radio Melbourne on Tuesday, Mr Albanese said he said he would not speculate on the church stabbing.
