So there’s an ACC crew for this game. That’s kind of standard practice. And a lot of these non-conference home and homes, usually the visiting team has their conferences, officials. So in this case, the SEC would normally do a game like this. In the postseason, I think they approach it more like kind of how you see March Madness, where they try to get an officiating crew that doesn’t work either at these conferences. So it’s an ACC crew. So let’s start there.
This referee specifically has been involved in some games that have had some very controversial endings. So as one of our texters, 614-350-3315 pointed out, Ryan Day’s whole thing is leave no doubt. I don’t think it’s crazy if like, you know, you get down to a situation where, okay, Ohio state’s up 17 to three.

And I think that’s maybe a little bit by design. I think that they are really emphasizing that, that they can’t get beat. like when they call blitzes, Sonny and Cody are the guys that blitz and you know, they’re at least the most prominent guys that blitz. So you can’t really get beat there.
Jim Knowles said, you know, or Ryan Day or whichever one is like, you know, like sometimes it’s like, you know, it’s certainly like an option where it’s, you you’re, you face it and then it’s different in practice as it is to a game. Well, you know, this is going to be different and this is a unique challenge that Ohio state has because much like an option offense, even though Tennessee doesn’t run anything remotely really close to an option offense.
That could be the difference between a three and out drive and a drive that’s now on its eighth play in nine minutes. Well, actually it would be more like 17 plays in four minutes since we’re playing Tennessee in this situation. But you get what I’m saying here. Like, Durian, that’s how you get three and outs by just simply doing the basic thing of completing something you’ve already executed. Now finish it off. Great point. I have two points.
Sometimes you just try too hard and sometimes the wheels spin too fast and you’re not playing freely, you’re not playing as you should because you’re trying too much to make something happen, whereas you’re not letting something come to you. I think of like a Will Howard and go back to that conversation. So I’m taking the ball for a couple of different reasons. I think Ohio State needs to go up early and I think that that would really benefit.
But I still think my trust in his defense outweighs that to be able to force a punt and give me the ball to start the second half.I’d have to double check and I didn’t, ran out of time to be able to do it. I think Ohio state has had the ball first in every playoff game they’ve played with Ryan Dan’s head coach. I think I know off the top of my head, that was the case in 19 and 22. I think it was the case in 20 as well, at least in the semi-final against Clemson.
No, I’m sorry. Ohio State got the ball first in that game. They get a field goal out of it. Iowa, Iowa gets the ball first. They end up putting after six plays, 16 yards and three 43 Oregon, Ohio State got the ball first and they go 10 plays, 75 yards in a touchdown. Nebraska. Cornhusters got the ball first ends up being a three and out two minutes and four seconds. Penn State. They got the ball first.They go 14 plays 61 yards and they get a field goal out of it.
and drew plenty of times, even the Michigan game where it’s like, that was easy. Why are you not doing that more? This looks so easy for you. There’s maybe three other teams, maybe this year, who can just do things as easy as Ohio State can do them when Ohio State’s not getting in its own way. So if you have an opportunity to put yourself in a position where. Tennessee gets the ball and they know they have to score because you just scored a touchdown.
sitting there watching Ohio State Michigan going, we can get after these guys. We can beat up these guys. And I think Tennessee’s defense is going to have some stuff to try and make it confusing for Will Howard. Because look, I mean, these teams aren’t stupid.
