UC San Diego lost 62-48 at home to UC Santa Barbara on Thursday, scoring only 26 points over the final 25 minutes while shooting 32% percent from the floor.
The Tritons had more turnovers than UCSB and saw their bench get outscored 18-5. Bol Dengdit led UCSD with 10 points and six rebounds. Tom Beattie added 10 points. Leading scorer Leo Beath was held to four points while going 1-for-6 from the field, although he did have eight rebounds.UCSD has lost back-to-back games for the first time since February 2024. The defending Big West champions are now 5-5 in conference play and in a four-way tie for fourth place. The Tritons are 5-6 since opening the season 10-1 and are only 5-5 at LionTree Arena this season. Freshman guard Hudson Mayes made his first start Thursday in the absence of Emanuel Prospere II and scored eight points and grabbed four rebounds. Mayes has 39 points and 19 rebounds in his last three games. Guard Alex Chaikin has 64 points in five games since moving into the starting lineup. Beath continues to lead UCSD with 14.7 points per game; he’s followed by Beattie , Chaikin and Dengdit .CSUN defeated the Tritons 84-79 at LionTree on Jan. 15. Josiah Davis led the Matadors with 23 points while James Evans Jr. added 22. CSUN beat UC Davis 94-78 on Thursday.
