This game is a toss up. Both programs were tested in the opening round. Sierra Canyon edged Warren 22-21 and Serra beat Norco 28-14. Maybe, what’s most impressive about Chaminade is after losing two straight games to finish the regular season, it bounced back with a playoff win. That’s hard to do. The Scots’ defense allows just 17.5 points per game. West Ranch’s offense averages 42 points per game. Something’s to give.Okay, that’s enough. No more calling Newbury Park quarterback Brady Smigiel a ‘freshman’. That’s just what he is on paper. On the field, he’s not a freshman anymore after throwing for 3,224 yards and 43 touchdowns in 11 games this season. He’s got the Panthers still playing in November, which is extraordinary.
