Just ahead of the debut of PrettyLittleLiarsOriginalSin, PLL's Lucy Hale shares her review of HBO Max's reboot: 'The original fans will love it.'
Lucy Hale gives her review of Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin. From 2010 to 2017, Hale starred as one of the core characters on Freeform's Pretty Little Liars, playing artsy Aria Montgomery. The YA series, which was based on novels by Sara Shepherd, followed Aria and her friends as they are pursued by the mysterious figure A, who threatens to expose their darkest secrets following the disappearance of their best friend Alison.

However, the Pretty Little Liars franchise continues to live on with a new HBO Max reboot from Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin is set to debut on the service on July 28, and it follows a new group of teenage girls in the town of Millwood as they are stalked and terrorized by a dangerous unknown assailant.
"The show is really cool, it's really good and there is a new fresh take on it. Like there is enough familiarity where people will, the original fans will love it. But it's scary, and it's really dark in Millwood." As Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin has the advantage of airing on a streaming service, it is likely that the challenges the new characters face will be more harrowing and threatening than the ones from the mothership show. Of course, the racy YA drama elements remain intact, but as the first-look images and character posters from Original Sin indicate, there is a real sense of unpredictability and horror in the reboot that was much more toned down in the original Pretty Little Liars.
Right now, Hale's support for Original Sin and its updated genre elements bode well for the reboot, building anticipation among both new and old audiences. Previously, shows like The CW's Charmed suffered since the reimaginations did not have the blessings of franchise veterans. Here, however, the original stars are of the opinion that Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin continues the legacy of PLL, and this bodes well for the show's success.
