Presumed Innocent, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, releases its first trailer ahead of Apple TV+ debut.
You can’t deny that Presumed Innocent, the new eight-part legal drama from David E Kelley, is, like its star Jake Gyllenhaal’s trapezius muscle, thoroughly worked out and undeniably solid. It harks back to an earlier, simpler time, when a chief deputy prosecutor could feasibly be tasked with solving the grisly, kinky murder of a colleague he definitely had some hot, thumb-in-the-mouth sex with, and may or may not have actually killed, too. You know, the good old days.
As is the way with any slow-burn mystery, our faith in Rusty – based on what exactly? His handsomeness? His richness? His Gyllenhaalness? – is gradually chipped away, via flashbacks that reveal that he might not be the wholesome family man we have taken him for. As the case against him gathers traction – magnified by the wider rivalries within the District Attorney’s office, with which the outcome of the case is somewhat confusingly interlinked – Rusty’s life starts to unravel .
