WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Trump addressed the nation Monday after taking the oath of office for the second time, declaring the 'decline is over' and ushering in a 'new era of national success.' Trump, who won both the Electoral College and popular vote in the 2024 election, vowed to prioritize 'America First' in every aspect of his administration. 'The golden age of America begins right now,' Trump declared in his inaugural address.
'From this day forward, our country will flourish and be respected again all over the world. We will be the envy of every nation, and we will not allow ourselves to be taken advantage of any longer.' Trump's speech, delivered in the Capitol Rotunda due to frigid temperatures forcing the inaugural ceremonies indoors, emphasized his commitment to reclaiming American sovereignty and restoring safety and justice. He promised to end the 'vicious, violent, and unfair weaponization' of the Justice Department and government, while prioritizing the creation of a 'proud, prosperous and free' nation. Trump also acknowledged the challenges facing the country, stating that 'while they are plentiful, they will be annihilated by this great momentum that the world is now witnessing in the United States of America.' He called for honesty and national unity, asserting that his recent election was a 'mandate to completely and totally reverse a horrible betrayal and all of these many betrayals that have taken place, and to give the people back their faith, their wealth, their democracy, and indeed their freedom.' Referencing his personal experiences, Trump highlighted the relentless attacks he endured throughout his 2024 campaign. He recounted the assassination attempt at a Pennsylvania rally in July, where a bullet pierced his ear, and the subsequent incident at his Florida golf course where another would-be-assassin targeted him. 'Over the past eight years, I have been tested and challenged more than any president in our 250-year history, and I've learned a lot along the way,' Trump said. 'The journey to reclaim our republic has not been an easy one, and that I can tell you. Those who wish to stop our cause have tried to take my freedom and indeed to take my life.' Despite these trials, Trump remained optimistic, declaring his belief that his life was spared for a divine purpose: 'to make America great again.
