President Joe Biden is expected to sign legislation today that will codify same-sex and interracial marriage rights in the U.S. in an attempt to stave off any attempts to overturn past Supreme Court rulings.

President Joe Biden is expected to sign legislation on Tuesday that will codify same-sex and interracial marriage rights in the U.S. in an attempt to stave off any attempts to overturn past Supreme Court rulings.

The bill passed in the House by a 258-169 margin last Thursday with 39 Republicans joining all 219 Democrats in supporting the motion. One-hundred and sixty-nine House Republicans voted against it. Although the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 2015 that states must allow same-sex couples the opportunity to wed, there have been concerns that the Supreme Court might revisit that ruling. The concerns came following the Supreme Court’s landmark decision to overturn Roe v. Wade earlier this year.
