President Joe Biden has canceled his planned trip to Austin after an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
President Biden says assassination attempt is "contrary to everything we stand for," will deliver a primetime address from the Oval Office.
The White House in a press release said, "The President is rescheduling his trip to Texas, which was originally planned for Monday, July 15." President Joe Biden was scheduled to visit Austin tomorrow to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. “Given the unfortunate events of the last 24 hours, we anticipated that the President's schedule could change anytime,” said Mark K. Updegrove, President & CEO of the LBJ Foundation and a presidential historian. “We are honored President Biden remains committed to joining us at the LBJ Library to mark the 60th Anniversary of the Civil Rights Act, and we look forward to hosting him later this month.”The President is expected to be in Austin from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Austin City officials want to remind the community to plan for changes on your daily commute tomorrow, July 15th. People are asked to seek alternative routes.TxDot posted on X that there will be closures on major roadways including IH-35 and SH 71 between the Austin Airport located at 3600 block Presidential Boulevard and Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum located at 2313 Red River Street.
