G.W. Long clinched the Class 2A, Area 4 regular-season title, downing the Ariton Purple Cats in four sets in high school volleyball action Thursday night at the G.W. Long campus
The Rebels are now 13-4 overall and 4-0 in area play with two matches with Barbour County left. Ariton fell to 11-4 and 2-2 with single matches with Abbeville and Barbour County left. Though the Purple Cats could theoretically tie G.W. Long, the Rebels have the tiebreaker of winning both matches against Ariton.
The Raiders improved to 4-1 in area play and can clinch the area with a win over Ashford on Monday. A win by Ashford tightens the race up with a couple of matches left. NMA is also still in the picture. Enterprise keeps rolling: Enterprise won its 11th straight match and improved to 27-4 overall and 6-0 in Class 7A, Area 3 with a 25-7, 25-2, 25-16 win over JAG .
Emma Helms delivered 32 assists, six aces, five kills and two blocks and Amiyah Lewis earned 23 kills, three aces and three blocks for Ashford. Kayla Fields added eight kills and two blocks, while Loren Beth Ingalls had five aces and six digs. Carsyn McArdle and Shelby Pate both had two kills and Ella Helms had two aces and two assists. Jalissiah Jackson had two blocks and two digs and Sarah Brooke Cochran added three digs.
Abby Key earned eight kills, three aces and five digs, Kahdyn Bivin had five kills, three aces and three digs and LaKayla Sellers amassed seven aces and four digs for CHHS. Jordan Ogleclark had three kills and 12 digs, while Bennett Holmes had two aces and 13 digs. Katie Sparrow added three kills.Emma Dyson had 11 kills, Brooklyn Head had eight kills and six aces and Hadley McCall had four kills, while Abbie Dyson delivered 24 assists for the Rebels.
