DAVID MUNDEE The Northside Methodist golf team earned its first trip to an AHSAA state tournament on Monday, winning the Class 3A, South 2 sub-state round at Montgomery’s Lagoon Park.
Also advancing to state was Opp’s Banks Johnson, who shot a 74 to earn medalist honors and one of the two individual qualifying spots from a non-qualifying team. Opp’s team scoring was led by Boyd’s 77, followed by Clay Kyser , Brody Ellis and Caden Machen . Conner Machen had a non-team counting 89.New Brockton’s effort was led by Colton Cain with an 88 and Nick Cassady with a 98.
Rehobeth’s effort was led by Kaiden Decapua with an 83. Cowdery Merrill followed with an 86 and both Kingston Chumney and Landon Cole fired an 87. Linkoln Robinson had a non-team counting 94 score. Jackson and Bayside Academy, as the top two finishers, qualified for the state meet next Monday and Tuesday in Florence.
