Staff Reports G.W. Long won its first two games on the newly named Earl Miller Field on Saturday, defeating Charles Henderson 7-1 and 11-7.
Lawson German picked up the pitching win for Long, working five innings. He gave up seven hits and seven runs, though only three runs were earned. He struck out two. Eben Pritchett earned a save after coming in with a 9-7 lead and working two shutout innings. He struck out two and allowed two hits. A run-scoring single by Aiden Cain helped Dale County cut it to 7-5. Maddox Weed followed with a single to put runners at first and second with only one out, but Cottonwood inserted Miller on the mound and he retired both batters he faced, both on strikeouts, to end the game.
Houston Academy 7, Madison Academy 5: Four Raiders had two hits each to pace Houston Academy’s win in Huntsville. In the opener, Colton Sampson had a double, a homer and three runs batted in to lead Lakeside. Grayson Edwards added a single and RBI.
