Tasmania avoids an early election after state Premier Jeremy Rockliff issued an ultimatum to the former attorney-general Elise Archer. The Mercury Political Editor David Killick sat down with Sky News Australia to discuss how close the state came to returning to the polls and what the political fallout will be from this ultimatum. “We were extremely close,” Mr Killick said. “The premier issued his ultimatum overnight – the deadline was Monday. “So Tasmanians were going to be going to the polls a couple of years early had Ms Archer not responded to this ultimatum from Mr Rockliff.”
