Reaction to Chelsea's victory at Crystal Palace in the Premier League, plus build-up to the Champions League as Manchester City travel to FC Copenhagen in the last 16.

Chelsea struggled to break down Crystal Palace in the first half despite dominating possession and completing 420 passes, the most in the opening 45 minutes of a Premier League game without having a shot on target since the 2003-04 season. Mauricio Pochettino made changes at half-time and with Christopher Nkunku coming on and Cole Palmer moving out to the right they seemed to be more fluent in attack.

The Blues boss said he was 'happy' to see the impact those changes made. 'I see two different sides,' he said. 'In the first half we were so flat, I was very disappointed, but in the second half we better and I am very pleased how we finished the game. So happy with the three points.' Pochettino added: 'A massive win. Our challenge is to be consistent, but this type of victory will help us to build our confidence.

Liverpool have returned from their Club World Cup winning heroics to rack up victories against Everton and Sheffield United, completing the first 19 games of their title defence. Manchester City are showing no signs of slowing down despite their heavy schedule, returning from their Club World Cup triumph over Fluminense to put the pressure back on Liverpool. The Reds finished 2023 top of the league courtesy of a 2-0 win over Burnley, but on Christmas day, the story was very different. Manchester United were instead league leaders on the 25th, after a 1-1 draw with Jurgen Klopp’s side, but back-to-back defeats against West Ham and Fulham dropped them to fourth, and left huge doubts over their title chances. With all considered, talkSPORT’s football correspondent Mark Goldbridge has taken a look at the lay of the land, and given his views on how the title race could end up...“It’s been a bit of a surprise with Arsenal.
