Premier League clubs have voted through a huge change to how offside decisions are made, with the introduction of semi-automated technology set to be brought in next season.
A major alteration to the handling of offside decisions has been approved by Premier League clubs, with semi-automated technology set to be introduced next season, impacting Manchester United and Manchester City.
Instead, the technology is expected to be implemented after one of the Autumn international breaks. In addition to providing greater accuracy in decision-making, it should also significantly improve speed, appeasing players, managers, fans and broadcasters. This decision signifies a shift in attitude from Premier League clubs after a prior suggestion of introduction was rejected. The technology will deploy 'limb-tracking' cameras along with a chip in the football to aid in decision-making.
