The Thunder added Alex Caruso and Isaiah Hartenstein to their uber-talented young core in the offseason, which makes them a viable pick to finish with the top seed for the second straight year.Hard to imagine the Thunder, with the deepest roster in the West, not winning the regular season, but it’s also hard to imagine willowy Chet Holmgren playing 82 games again.
Never mind the Klay Thompson factor. Have oddsmakers forgotten that the Mavericks were injury-riddled the first half of last season, then came Gafford and Washington acquisitions, the 18-3 record with Gafford as starter, the 50-32 finish and run to the Finals? Evidently.Looks like a May finish instead of June. The Mavericks win the first round on the road again but this time lose a tough 7-game second-round series to the Thunder.
Doncic shouldn’t have to shoulder a heavy scoring load this season, especially since Thompson is expected to take away some of that offensive burden. It’s possible his assist average could increase in the process. He’s the most valuable player on the Mavericks, but Doncic’s consistent production could make him the most valuable player in the league this year.Luka wins his first MVP because Denver will finish third in the West, and no matter how good Jokic is, third isn’t good enough.
