After the box office disappointment of The Little Mermaid the fate of other Disney upcoming live-action movies comes into question. Disney has experienced both extreme highs and massive lows from their live-action remakes, with The Little Mermaid currently resting below its expected box office projections.
10 Robin Hood - $360 million The Robin Hood live-action Disney remake will likely not do much better than The Sword in the Stone at the box office. The 1973 original animated film generated $33 million, making it the eighth highest-grossing movie at the domestic box office that year. For context, the three highest-grossing movies of 1973, American Graffiti, The Sting, and The Exorcist all surpassed $100 million domestically.
8 Hercules - $610 million Hercules already received a live-action remake in 2014 starring Dwayne Johnson that essentially bombed at the box office which might have had something to do with Disney's lack of involvement. The beloved Disney animated original earned $250 million at the worldwide box office in 1997, which would be equivalent to $474 million today.
4 The Hunchback Of Notre Dame - $720 million The Hunchback of Notre Dame original movie was a box-office smash, accumulating $325 million globally in 1996. By today's standards, that number is equivalent to roughly $631 million. The Hunchback of Notre Dame outperformed 101 Dalmatians, Jerry Maguire, Space Jame, and Scream at the 1996 box office and was the fifth highest-grossing film of the year.
