Seddio — who is the law partner of Adams’ political adviser and former City Hall chief-of-staff Frank Carone — said he doesn’t see a path for embattled mayor to win re-election. “I love Eric. I supported him for all his races — for state senate, borough president and mayor,” Seddio said.
“I have been friends with Eric all these years. But looking at the circumstances, I don’t see a path where Eric could win.” After turning from Adams, Seddio, a moderate Democrat, said Cuomo is the clear choice — though the former governor hasn’t announced he is running yet. Seddio — who was recently approved as the Brooklyn Democrat commissioner on the city’s Board of Elections — said his Thomas Jefferson Democratic Club will be officially endorsing Cuomo on Tuesday. He said the other left-of-center candidates running in the June Democratic mayoral primary are not worthy of leading City Hall.“The progressives running are nothing but hypocrites. They were for defunding the police and now all of a sudden they say we need more cops,” said Seddio, who was chairman of the Brooklyn Democratic Party from 2012 to 2020. Seddio, 78, also is closely allied with his successor, Brooklyn Democratic Party leader Rodneyse Bichotte-Hermelyn, who has been a staunch Adams supporter. The politico also has long ties to Cuomo and his father, former Gov. Mario Cuomo. He supported Andrew’s runs for state attorney general and governor and Mario’s runs for governor and mayor.“But I think Andrew can provide the leadership with the public where the City Council will have to pay attention,” Seddio said.Cuomo, who resigned as governor in 2021 over sexual misconduct accusations he denies, is expected to announce his comeback bid for mayor on Sunday.
