CenterPoint Energy experiences power challenges, urging residents to conserve electricity. Isolated outages impact 170 homes and businesses, with repair crews working to restore service. Galveston City opens a warming and charging station as a precaution.

Snow continues to fall on Galveston Island following a night of strong winds, sleet, and icy conditions. Despite the challenging weather, the city's systems are operating normally. However, CenterPoint Energy is facing some power supply issues, particularly west of 61st Street. In an effort to maintain grid stability, CenterPoint is urging residents to conserve electricity. Currently, approximately 170 homes and businesses are experiencing power outages due to isolated incidents.

Repair crews are diligently working to restore service as quickly as possible. As a precautionary measure, the City of Galveston is opening McGuire Dent Recreation Center at 11 a.m. as a warming and charging station. The City of Jamaica Beach is also opening their City Hall for the same purpose. These centers are established as a safety net, should the need arise, and not due to anticipated widespread power disruptions
