A power line caught fire during an ice storm during the weekend in Evansville, Indiana. Video footage from the Jan. 5 incident shows a flame extending across a power line and there are sounds of electrical sparking and a woman heard in the background yelling, 'Get in the house!' Edward Barnhill recorded the dramatic scene and shared the video with the social news platform Storyful. While sitting in my home, I heard a loud crash,' Barnhill told Storyful.
'I went to observe, and as I did, I saw sparks from a power line.' Barnhill shared with Storyful that a 'huge tree' came down, causing a transformer to fail. He added that he is currently without power, and it may be like this for a few more days. Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry and the Vanderburgh County Commissioners declared a State of Emergency Sunday evening, warning of 'Possible road closures, displacement from homes, infrastructure issues, hardships, and lost business, among other challenges,' according to the City of Evansville’s official Facebook page. As of Tuesday, more than 17,000 people are without power in Vanderburgh County, according to PowerOutage.us
