EXCLUSIVE: The Poverty Alliance has called for people on low incomes to be central to government policy.

One of Scotland’s top campaign groups has called for the next UK Government to end benefit caps to cut poverty levels.

“And the unjust benefit cap cuts the vital link between the financial support that households need and what they actually receive. The way it has been designed means it’s most likely to hit those people who most need support – including lone parents, large families, and families with young children. The manifesto is demanding an end to the ‘young parent penalty’ that sees those under-25 paid less in Universal Credit and a social tariff to help people struggling to pay energy bills.

Labour have not committed to scrapping the two child cap, although party sources believe it will be axed as part of a review into universal credit.
