The data shows that noncitizens, a category that includes both legally and illegally employed foreign workers, make up 9% of all employed people in 2022. Of the 16 industries tracked, nine industries with lower wages employed 8.8 million noncitizen workers, making up 13% of total employment in these industries. The remaining seven industries with higher wages employed 5.9 million noncitizens, making up only 7% of total employment in these industries
