It's a battle between Postmates, Uber Eats, Grubhub and DoorDash and the new area to win is in the restaurant.
on how it has to change its business model to respond to the competition. While some have compared it to the early war between Lyft and Uber, it’s clear to Postmates CEO and cofounder Bastian Lehmann that the food delivery competition is a different kind of fight.
“The competition in the food delivery wars is like the streaming wars,” Lehmann told the audience Monday atUnlike Uber and Lyft, which have relatively undifferentiated products, the different streaming services often set themselves apart based on their content.
Uber, DoorDash and Grubhub have also been signing their own exclusive deals, with chains from Shake Shack to Chili’s. In, Grubhub acknowledged that the customers using its network now are “more promiscuous” than the customers of the past. “For years, we saw in our data that a Grubhub diner was extremely loyal to our platform.
For both streaming and food delivery companies, it’s becoming clear that each company needs enough popular content to attract their users. As part of Grubhub’s business shift, it’s going to start adding restaurants to the platform that it doesn’t have formal partnerships with, following in the footsteps of Postmates and DoorDash.
