Edwin Cuadrado Jr., is accused of stabbing a supervisor in the back of the head in a post office parking lot in Carmel Mountain Ranch

A 37-year-old postal worker was arrested on suspicion of wounding his supervisor by stabbing him in the back of the head with a knife, according to federal prosecutors.

Edwin Cuadrado Jr. of San Diego was charged in federal court with assault on a federal employee after the incident on Aug. 25 at a mail facility on Rancho Carmel Drive, west of Interstate 15, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said in a news release. Before the stabbing, investigators said Cuadrado got in a verbal and physical fight with one of his supervisors at a gas station near the post office. The two parted ways.A short time later, Cuardrado drove his postal service vehicle into the main employee parking lot at the mail facility, officials said. Three other supervisors confronted Cuadrado about the gas station fight.

Cuadrado then pulled a knife on the three supervisors and stabbed one of them in the back of the head, according to prosecutors. He fled the scene before police could arrive.Investigators arrested Cuadrado five days later and charged him with two counts of assault on a federal employee. U.S. Magistrate Judge William Gallo ordered Cuadrado held without bail after prosecutors argued he was a flight risk and danger to the community.
