A postal worker in Charlotte, North Carolina, and her two accomplices have been sentenced to prison for stealing over $24 million worth of checks. The three individuals conspired to steal checks from incoming and outgoing mail, selling them to other individuals for profit.
A postal worker and two accomplices have been sentenced to prison for their roles in a scheme involving stolen checks worth more than $24 million. Nakedra Shannon, 30, and Desiray Carter, 30, both previously pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit financial institution fraud and theft of government property. Shannon received a 60-month sentence and Carter received 54 months in prison. Both of their sentences were followed by two years of supervised release.
They were ordered to pay more than $113,000 in restitution. Donell Gardner, 28, was named as a third suspect. Gardner was sentenced to 54 months in prison and three years of supervised release. According to court records, Shannon was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a mail processing clerk at a distribution center in Charlotte from March 2021 to July 2023. Shannon admitted that she conspired with Gardner and Carter to steal incoming and outgoing checks from April to July 2023. Officials said Carter and Gardner then sold the stolen checks to other individuals. The group stole checks totaling more than $24 million.
