'I came down for a walk along the beach and was shocked that I couldn’t actually see the sea'

Beachgoers have described "post-apocalyptic" scenes today as Welsh beaches are shrouded in thick fog. One beachgoer described how she was unable to see the sea from the sand, but said it didn't stop people from making the most of the warm weather.

Pictures taken on Saturday show Barry Island as busy as a summer's day as temperatures reach 25C in the area, but covered in fog. The woman described her "shock" at the lack of view when she arrived for a walk to Wales Online. She said: "I came down for a walk along the beach and was shocked that I couldn’t actually see the sea. Visibility is really poor and it looks pretty post-apocalyptic. There are still loads of people on the beach though making the most of the warm weather - mental that people are actually swimming in the sea."Another person at the beach in Barry said they "could not believe the humidity" at the beach. And it was a similar scene at Langland Bay near Swansea.

And pictures taken at Cardiff Bay on Saturday morning showed similar scenes, with the horizon blocked by thick mist. It follows days of scorching hot weather, with the Met Office saying Saturday in Wales would be "a very warm, humid, mostly dry and sunny day. However, low cloud affecting some coasts, and a chance of an afternoon shower, perhaps heavy and thundery in the east, any showers soon easing to leave a fine end to the day. Cloud building overnight with the chance of further showers by dawn. Staying warm and humid".
