Positive measles cases were identified at Old Mill Elementary and Timpanogos Middle. In a letter sent to parents or guardians of students, the Wasatch County Health Department said exposures may have occurred at the elementary school on May 15, and at the middle school on May 14 and May 15.
"Measles is highly contagious, spreads easily, and can remain in the air for up to two hours," the health department said in the letter. "Approximately 9 out of 10 people who are not immune will become infected when exposed. The MMR vaccine is the best way to protect your child and family from measles.
" The health department encouraged anyone in third grade at the elementary school and anyone at the middle school who has not received the MMR vaccine to stay home for 21 days from the last possible date of exposure. "Based on the exposure date, this means not attending school for the remainder of the school year," the letter states.
