The man suspected of shooting a trooper Friday in Kent carried a lengthy criminal background and had a warrant out for his arrest in Pierce County.
Jason Posada, 31,with first-degree assault with a firearm enhancement, unlawful possession of a firearm, and theft of a firearm after allegedly shooting a Washington State Patrol trooper multiple times on Friday in Kent after the trooper attempted to pull Posada over on State Route 167 for a suspected DUI just before midnight.Charging documents say Posada crashed into another vehicle on the 1600 block of West James Place and attempted to run away.
Kent police said after authorities found the trooper near an apartment complex, they used police dogs and air support to find the suspect. Court documents also say a woman who police said was associated with the suspect was also taken into custody. The trooper has been with state patrol for 21 years and is part of the Enumclaw detachment, according to the WSP.According to prosecutors, Posada was previously being held on a separate warrant and has a lengthy criminal history. According to the Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, Posada was bailed out of jail in June by the Northwest Community Bail Fund.
