From two horse-drawn carriages and a Rolls-Royce to a Packard and a 1986 Citroën, this Portuguese tribute to presidential motorcades does not disappoint.
The Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles occasionally displays its US Presidential cars, including Dwight Eisenhower’s open 1952 Chrysler Imperial Parade Phaeton and an armor-plated 1942 Lincoln Zephyr that Franklin Roosevelt used. But you have to visit Dearborn, Michigan, and The Henry Ford to see X-100, the Lincoln Continental that carried JFK that fatal day in Dallas.
Between 1959 and 1968 only 832 of these cars were built, based on the Silver Cloud II and sharing that model’s V-8 engine and General Motors Hydra-Matic-type transmission. Bodies were built by James Young, HJ Mulliner, and Park Ward . Other celebrity owners of Phantom Vs included Elton John, Liberace, Elvis Presley, the Shah of Iran, and Imelda Marcos.
