This change does not alter how people in the affected areas should reach out for emergency services, with 911 still being the way to get in touch with emergency dispatch.

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - On July 1, a contract between the City of Fairbanks and the Fairbanks North Star Borough is set to expire without renewal.

The other area runs south from Van Horn Road down to the Tanana River, between Fort Wainwright land to the east and Lathrop Street to the west. All told, 361 people and a number of businesses occupy this section, which will now be served by the University Fire Department. Fairbanks Fire Chief Andrew Coccaro disputes that number, saying to his knowledge, the City never asked for more than $10,000 for the EMS contract. “We were willing to go status quo, which would have been the same price as it currently is, and we were willing to negotiate beyond that point, if they felt that there was a financial impact even from that level,” he said.And finally, at the beginning of May, the city was officially notified of the decision. “I didn’t really see that change coming.
