Port of Galveston terminal expansion for Carnval's newest cruise ship comes with $53M price tag
GALVESTON CRUISES:
Construction plans include improving the way guests can efficiently get on and off the ship, along with updating the terminal to make it more accommodating for the ship, according to a news release.The port will fund the cruise terminal expansion with cash reserves, a proposed bond issue and an agreement with Carnival, the release read.
“Carnival was the first major cruise line to homeport in Galveston more than 20 years ago. They believed in us then and believe in Galveston’s growing prominence as a top cruise port today,” Galveston Wharves port director and CEO Rodger Rees said. Galveston Wharves has been a maritime commercial center since 1825. It is an 840-acre port that is 45 minutes from open seas.
