Porsche reports a 3% decrease in global vehicle sales for 2024, attributed to factors like the transition to electric mobility, economic challenges, and regional market fluctuations. While the Macan EV outperforms its ICE counterpart in Q4, the Taycan experiences a sharp decline, while the Cayenne continues to be a top seller.
Porsche reported global sales of 310,718 vehicles in 2024, representing a 3% decrease compared to 2023. The Macan EV emerged as a standout performer, outselling its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart in the fourth quarter. However, the Taycan faced a significant sales decline, with deliveries nearly halving year-over-year. The Macan EV, launched in January 2024, saw its sales surge in the final quarter, accounting for nearly 66% of total Macan sales.
This success can be attributed, in part, to the discontinuation of the ICE Macan in Europe due to stricter cybersecurity regulations. In other markets, both ICE and EV versions of the Macan are still available. Overall Macan sales (including both ICE and EV) decreased by 5% compared to 2023, primarily due to the European market shift.The Taycan, Porsche's flagship electric sedan, experienced a 49% drop in sales to 20,836 units. Porsche attributed this decline to the introduction of a facelifted model and acknowledged that the transition to electric mobility is progressing slower than anticipated. Meanwhile, the Panamera also saw a decline in sales, dropping by 13% to 29,587 units, largely due to decreased demand in China.On a more positive note, the Cayenne continued its reign as Porsche's best-selling model, with sales increasing by 18% to reach 102,889 units. The 911 sports car maintained its position as Porsche's flagship, delivering 50,941 units. And the 718 Boxster and Cayman saw a 15% surge in sales, with a combined total of 23,670 units sold.Looking ahead, Porsche faces both opportunities and challenges. While the company remains optimistic about personalization trends and global growth potential, it must navigate a complex economic and geopolitical landscape, particularly in China, where sales saw a significant decline. Porsche's commitment to value-based sales and adapting to evolving market conditions will be crucial for its continued success
