Check out the new Porsche 911 Carrera T! You know the drill: lighter, louder and more than likely the pick of the range...

It’s T-time, Porsche style. And just like the mid-morning or mid-afternoon event when the kettle gets fired up, this comes around regularly when Porsche announces an unadulterated version to fire up one of its model ranges.

This time it’s the 992 that’s getting the T for Touring treatment. You know the drill by now. The T is based on the entry-level model in the range and offers a slightly purer and more sporting driving experience. The 911 Carrera T sits between the Carrera and the Carrera S, using the standard car’s 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged ‘six’ with the same 335hp and 332lb ft of torque. As a result it does 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds, which slower. That’s a good thing, though. Here's why... For a start, that kind of acceleration is plenty, and the reason why the T is slower is that it comes with a seven-speed manual gearbox as standard. You can’t have one of those with the 992 Carrera and well as making the driving experience more involving it has the added bonus of saving some weight. There’s additional weight saving thanks to less noise insulation, thinner glass, a lightweight battery and the fact the T has no rear seats. In total, then, the T is 35kg lighter than the Carrera and 10kg lighter than the Carrera S fitted with a manual ‘box. Now, if you can feel that 10 or even the 35kg difference, then bully for you. Alone, that’s unlikely to make a huge difference to the driving experience - but it certainly won’t hurt it. The T should be more sensory in other respects, though. Noisier, because of the thinner glass and so on, and because the T comes with the sports exhaust as standard. It also has PASM sports suspension, which is firmer and sits the body 10mm nearer to the ground for improved control. The T also comes with the same Porsche Torque Vectoring and a mechanically locking differential as the S, and the same wheels. They’re 20-inch at the front and 21-inch at the rear and 10 spokes, but with a unique Titanium Grey finish – and we know how much PHers love dark wheels. Rear-wheel steering isn’t standard but, unlike with the Carrera, you can add it as an option. To match the wheels, the T comes with Agate Grey exterior detailing for the door mirrors, window finishers, rear grille and the new logos that feature on the doors and at the rear. The exhaust pipe finishers, meanwhile, come in high-gloss black. That darker theme crosses to the inside, which has a mix of matte and high-gloss black trims. If you fancy something a little jazzier there’s the optional Carrera T interior package. That contrasts the black with Slate Grey or Lizzard Green for the stitching, seatbelts and the 911 logos embossed in the headrests, plus it adds coloured stripes down the centre of the seats. Other equipment highlights for the T include the Sports Chrono Pack, a GT sports steering wheel and four-way electric Sports Seats Plus. Lightweight buckets with Race Tex trim are available. Fancy one? We wouldn’t blame you – T versions often end up as the sweet spot in the range. The price for the Carrera T is £98,500 and it’s available to order now.
