Baldwin County’s population rose to 267,761 on July 1, up 6,109 from the year before. The 2.3 percent rate is nearly four times the state average. However, it has cooled off from the pace of the previous three years, when the county had a net gain of more than 7,000 residents each year. At the midpoint of the decade, Baldwin is on a pace to crack 300,000 residents by the 2030 census. For the decade, Baldwin County is among the 10 fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the country. The population in Mobile County, where the growth has remained largely flat for years, declined by 535 from the middle of 2024 to mid-2025. The population also declined in the rural counties that border Mobile and Baldwin counties.Among the 2,066 counties where the population increased between 2023 and 2024, growth slowed or reversed in almost 80 percent of them, according to the census estimates. The bureau attributed that trend to lower international migration. “The nation’s largest counties like those in the New York metro area are often international migration hubs, gaining large numbers of international migrants and losing people that move to other parts of the country via domestic migration,” Census Bureau demographer George M.
