Americans say the country is on the wrong track. But the folks at the American Communities Project say this shared opinion stems from many different views.

has shown it: 65% in a Reuters/Ipsos poll, 58% in a Harvard-Harris poll, 65% in a USA Today/Suffolk survey, 64% in a Yahoo News survey, 65% in a New York Times/Siena poll, and 69% in a Wall Street Journal survey. Polls ters love to ask Americans what they think about the direction of the nation, but a pair of researchersIt’s a conversation starter but not an answer.

“When you really get into the numbers, you just really understand how complicated the country is,” Chinni said. “And it's much more than even talking about states. I mean, we're in Michigan right now. There are a lot of different Michigans in Michigan. I mean, Detroit is really different from Ann Arbor, even though they're both really Democratic. They're really different places. And then you go upstate, it's a completely different world.”Few did.
