The agency made the announcement on Monday morning, saying it was working with banks to vet whether applicants have alternative sources of income. To qualify for the grant, applicants should have income less than R595 in their accounts, unless the funds are from a Sassa child-related grant, and must not be a beneficiary of NSFAS or any other government grants. “Sassa requests applicants who have not yet received their appeals' feedback to be patient as these cases are sent to the banking sector for validation, which may take time in some cases.
“Once your appeal is lodged, Sassa will verify your employment status with the UIF and the outcome will be communicated,” it said.
