Russian President Vladimir Putin didn’t release a video aimed at the American people in which he speaks in English about democracy. The video is a deepfake created in 2020 for an ad campaign ahead of the U.S. presidential election.

It’s a deepfake — a form of artificial intelligence that manipulates people’s likenesses and makes it look as if they are doing or saying something that they didn’t.
