A TikTok video baselessly described Chinese immigrants disguised as military on their way to the U.S. southern border. While the number of Chinese migrants traveling that route has sharply increased, that’s no evidence of a connection to China’s military.
Most Chinese migrants enter the U.S. at airports with visas, but it’s always been the case that some have arrived through other means, said Dube, who cited as an example the, a freighter used to smuggle nearly 300 immigrants from China in 1993 that ran aground off Queens, New York.
Steven Camarota, director of research at the Center for Immigration Studies, a group that advocates for reduced immigration, said that in the past, Chinese migrants who were in the U.S. illegally had mostly overstayed a temporary visa.
