Overall bankruptcies in the United States are down this year despite more corporate filings, but politics may turn the wave into a tsunami, says Three_Guineas.

More than 740 companies filed for Chapter 11 U.S. bankruptcy in September, a more than 75% jump compared with the same month in 2019, according to Epiq. Total corporate Chapter 11 filings during the first nine months of 2020 were up a third compared with the same period in 2019.

However, total U.S. filings, including individuals filing for bankruptcy, fell 28 percent to 420,048 during the first nine months of the year compared with the same period last year.
