Opposition parties have criticised President Cyril Ramaphosa’s update on the government’s response to dealing with the Covid-19 coronavirus, saying he did not give details about what level 3 would look like
The DA has gone beyond criticising his speech by going to court to challenge the rationality of aspects of the Disaster Management Act, under which regulations are promulgated.
DA interim leader John Steenhuisen said Ramaphosa was trying to defend the indefensible, adding that the lockdown had cost more lives than it had saved. “The success of Covid-19 interventions depends on the buy-in and cooperation of citizens. The secretive, force-based ANC lockdown should immediately be replaced,” said Steenhuisen.
