Political parties declare over R60 million in donations, DA gets the biggest slice of the pie
The Electoral Commission of SA said that the DA received more donations at R35.3 million. The party was followed by Action SA , ANC and the EFF, which received only R150 000.It appears from this reality that some of the political parties have already started looking into the future and are therefore already actively raising funds through donations for the forthcoming 2024 general elections.
The commission said that the DA’s total in-kind donation was from the Friedrich Naumann Foundation [a German foundation for liberal politics], which has up to now donated to the party every quarter. EFF’s in-kind donation of R150 000 was received from an entity known as Twaabam in the form of food, transport, fuel and remuneration for the five people who were responsible for cooking. The DA declared R2 364 746.51 in foreign donations.
