Senator David Pocock is right to fight plans from political parties to exclude them from the misinformation bill.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority must have appropriate powers to punish blatant misinformation and disinformation, but there’s no way voters will countenance an exemption for government authorised content . Political parties are among the biggest offenders when it comes to false advertising. It was arrogant of Labor even to think they could get away with this exemption.

I’d suggest that while history may not tell us precisely what to do, it can provide invaluable lessons on avoiding the repetition of what not to do, and pursuing the metaphor, a competent driver will note what is in the rear and side mirrors, as well as ahead.
