Pemimpin yang mengendalikan krisis itu, Carrie Lam menimbulkan kemarahan awam, dengan pengkritik menggesanya menutup seluruh sempadan dengan tanah besar China dan beberapa pekerja perubatan melakukan protes.Lebih 100 penduduk Hong Kong yang menjadi penumpang kapal layar Diamond Princess di Jepun dijangka kembali ke Hong Kong dengan penerbangan kerajaan pada malam Jumaat atau Sabtu.Pihak berkuasa berkata 66 dari 364 penduduk Hong Kong berada di kapal itu dijangkiti dengan Covid-19.
