Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #9 President Keith Ferrell released a video statement Wednesday on the death of 16-year-old Ma'Khia Bryant. Ferrell said the shooting is traumatic for everyone involved.
"First I would like to give my condolences to the family members, the community, and the officers involved in this tragic incident," Ferrell said.He said while the video has been released, there is more to look at and that will be investigated by the Ohio Bureau of Investigation .
Ferrell said officers with the Columbus Division of Police and surrounding agencies are some of the best trained around. He said they will continue to train to improve."Without knowing facts, without evaluating the video and waiting for those things to come out or saying things that just further divide a community that's already in pain, along with the country in recent days.
He said the shooting highlights the growing issue of violence in the community, especially among young people. "Unfortunately this is a pattern we're seeing all too much," Ferrell said. "Only leadership and not rhetoric will bring this community together and help solve those problems. We would like to be a part of that solution."
